My definition of success.

"To laugh often and much,
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children,
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends,
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded!"

Flowers

Some men never think of it.
You did. You'd come along
And say you'd nearly brought me flowers
But something had gone wrong.

The shop closed. Or you had doubts-
The sort that minds like ours
Dream up incessantly. You thought
I might not want your flowers.

It made me smile and hug you then.
Now I can only smile.
But, look, the flowers you nearly brought
Have lasted all this while.

Checked in

It did feel a bit amusing to be pushed around on a wheelchair for tests, when I could walk perfectly well. Reminded me of Maitryi who loves to do this with my office chair. I now know a few more words in kannada, for eg, what they call a laboratory and a blood bank. The best of all was the hospital gown with strings at the back...always wanted one of those stringed cholis. Some of our desires are fulfilled in the most unlikely places under some extraordinary circumstances. Life is funny alright.
